Hello, Welcome!

My name is Birgitta. I grew up in HongKong, and came to Toronto in 2013 for school. At this time, I knew that being a part of the creative process for television and film was always my dream. Specifically, I have always been fascinated by the use of one's limitless imagination to pull an audience away from reality. I graduated from York University studying Communication Studies in 2017, which only further developed my interest in the field of film. Afterwards, I put a pause on pursuing my dream of working in the film industry to work an office job, where I honed my interpersonal/communication, and general problem solving skills until I felt ready to enter the world of creativity again.

In 2022, I decided to resume my pursuit towards the tv/film world again. I took my next major step by enrolling in the Complete Makeup Artist Program at CMU (College of Makeup Art and Design) in March 2022, and graduated in November as one of the top 3 in class.

Being a makeup artist makes me feel like a wizard. I thoroughly love the process of listening to directors tell me how they want the characters in their stories to be portrayed, and undergoing the transformation process with them to help them achieve that. But ultimately, the most rewarding aspect is the smile of satisfaction in the clients' faces upon completion. Being a part of a team whose goal is to transform imagination to reality, and seeing the result of it all is what makes the experience feel so magical to me.

While working in an office job may seem to have been nothing more than a distraction from my pursuit of doing what I love, I firmly believe that it is thanks to my experience in an office that I managed to truly hone my interpersonal/communication, and problem solving skills in a way that only improves my capacity as a makeup artist.

Communication is vital, and as a professional makeup artist, I always ensure to be prepared by knowing what aesthetic the client is looking to achieve. As for working on set, I always make sure to communicate with the head of the department/the director so clear goals can be set and achieved. In my experience, it is essential to talk to the Head MUA/Director in between scenes and shots to ensure the magic of transformation is done effectively, properly, and accomplishes its goal of converting imagination to reality.
